Several canals crisscross the city: the Canal du Midi, the Canal de Brienne, and the Garonne Lateral Canal. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Canal du Midi connects Toulouse to the Mediterranean Sea. Built during the reign of Louis XIV by Pierre-Paul Riquet and completed in the 19th century by the Garonne Lateral Canal to provide access to the Atlantic, this waterway can be explored on foot, by bicycle, or even by boat.

In summer, enjoy the cool shade of its plane tree-lined avenues and its calm, green waters.

The Markets

05

Visiting Toulouse also means savoring the city's specialties, enjoying high-quality regional products, and above all, local ones. We recommend a visit to the famous Carmes market to stroll among the various stalls that will literally make your mouth water! From bakers and greengrocers to butchers and fishmongers, the 50 vendors welcome you from Tuesday to Sunday.

For those who like to combine festive occasions with delicious food, head to the Victor Hugo market located on the square of the same name! Every Thursday, the market transforms into a favorite spot for locals with the famous "Nocturne" (night market). Until late in the evening, the market and the restaurants upstairs offer a chance to extend the enjoyment! On the menu: large plates of fresh produce accompanied by a drink, all to the rhythm of live music.

Cite de l'espace

The City of Space

For young and old alike, the Cité de l’espace (Space City) offers a journey into the world of space. The 2,500 m² of exhibits unfold through a fun and interactive tour where you'll discover all the stages of an astronaut's life.

In the gardens, discover real spacecraft like the Mir space station and the Soyuz capsule. For younger children: head to the Ariane rocket launch pad to explore the Cité des petits (Children's City). Here, children can train to become astronauts or engineers: preparing the rocket, organizing the launch mission, and off to the space station!
